Stapleton, Colorado, USA

Case Study

The development by Forest City Enterprises is located at the site of the decommissioned Stapleton Airport, which became redundant with the opening of the Denver International Airport in 1995. Anticipating this change in 1990, the Stapleton Redevelopment Corporation was set up to manage and maintain the property. The Stapleton Development Plan, also known as ‘The Green Book’, was compiled as a collaboration between business leaders, civic officials and citizens who wanted to guide the sustainable redevelopment of Stapleton. During 1998, Forest City Enterprises was selected by the Stapleton Redevelopment Corporation and Denver Council to develop the site in alignment with the principles of ‘The Green Book’.
