Buderim Urban Food Street, QLD

Case Study

A great example of growing produce in unexpected locations are the streets of Buderim, a suburb on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Here the community has taken the traditional backyard veggie garden to the streets, with limes, avocados, pawpaw, tamarillo, olives, blueberries (to name a few) as well as a children’s garden planted throughout the public streetscape. The local community donates what they can and the produce is accessible to everyone.
The community has found that it not only reduces their household grocery bills, but also creates a stronger community. Furthermore, properties in the area have become more sought after and are achieving higher prices as new residents are keen to be part of the vibrant local community.
